Winter, Skiing and the Greigor Retreat Center

So, today I just got back from our family's annual trip to our friend's cabin deep in the woods of Washington state. We've done it every year since I was 2 years old!! Our friends have this really nice modernized cabin really close to Crystal Mountain near Greenwater (doubtful anyone would know where that is). It's amazing. This year, two members of the usual group were missing due to sickness, causing a slight sadness, but it was still fun nevertheless! We play games, puzzles, go hot tubbing, go on walks, sleep, eat and relax. It's basically paradise. Even without any electronics, except for the occasional hot spot for service, it is more than bearable. The highlight is skiing on Crystal mountain, the BEST place to go skiing in the whole world. It was so beautiful this time because the sun was shining and it was a clear day with fresh snow. It was a Sunday, so there was no better time or place to worship our wonderful Creator(:
This is what I love about winter. The stillness, the crisp, cold beauty, the green trees, the snow, the peacefulness, the warm fires, blankets and friends. Snowboard-bum run ice cream stores, elk in your front yard, steaming in a hot tub while looking up at the stars, freezing for that couple of seconds while running from your car to the house. Lots of people say that life is not perfect, but I believe that's as close as it will ever get.

Topic of the day: music
Q: Who doesn't love music??
A: no one.
It's probably the only thing in the world that no one can not like. Even if you don't want to admit it, it still gets to you in some way or another, and you can't help but dance or sing along. It uplifts you, it makes you think, and makes you feel happy.
There are so many types and genres, so there's something for everyone. I personally like country. Country music is real...it talks about real life things, yet makes it interesting, because life is interesting. You ever heard the phrase real life is so much better than the movies? Well it's true. Just look around you. What's happening? Something incredible is always happeneing, whether you know it or not. Life is so unpredictable and exciting. It has conflict and climax; a beginning and an end.
Music makes life even more wonderful and amazing. You can let your guard down, like when you're in the shower singing. You don't have to be good or anything...that's not the point (uneless your planning to be the next American Idol). The point is that it makes you feel something, makes you feel alive. It makes you think that anything is possible and you can achieve anything.
Thank you God for creating music <3

Japan

So, this summer I had an amazing and once-in-a-lifetime experience. I got to go to Japan. It was with my Dad's high school, where he works and a handful of students that go there went to and my Dad was the leader of the group. It was an "educational tour", so it was geared toward, well, education. So, it wasn't going to be just a vacation. But it sure felt like it!
I got to see things like the biggest Buddhas in the world (they were HUGE) and the other side of the Pacific Ocean. I think my favorite part was all the Japanese people. They were all so nice and just so cute and quick and none of them were clastophobic. I can't believe how many people could crowd onto trams and on crosswalks (in Tokyo, they used the whole street instead of just the crosswalks because there were too many people).
I loved downtown Tokyo at night because there were so many stores and bright lights...it was amazing. There was this one building we went into that was, like 20 stories high FULL of only girl's clothes! Plus, they were all so cute! It was really annoying because there were these Japanese girls yelling at the front of every store in really high pitched voices, and I couldn't understand what they were saying at all. The only word I remember is Arigato...which means thank you.
We went to so many Shinto and Buddhist shrines that I got them all blurred together! There was this deer park, where the biggest Buddha is, and you can feed the deer with your hands! They like to nip though. That is also where I (well, my friends) broke my camera. But then my dad fixed it. If it had stayed broken, I don't know what I would've done because I took over 700 pictures.
I saw the statue of liberty (a replica), many electronic stores with DS players out front, rickshaws, cute Japanese children, rode a couple of boat cruises and go on a gondola up into the mist of a mountain. I also got to see a Geisha, which was really rare, and I took a picture of her. Geishas are those women with the kimonos and white faces. I also got to go in a hot bath in this really nice hotel we stayed in on the beach. We also went to the Hard Rock Cafe in Osaka, a couple of museums, experienced authentic Japanese food and samurai food. The food isn't really my favorite, so I just loaded up on rice, which was always unlimited(: There are just so many things I did, and so many good times I had with the new friends I made. It's sad because I don't see them anymore because they go to Lakes:(
I did not like the plane rides, I do have to say. We flew down to San Fransisco, then took a 10 HOUR flight to Tokyo...it was horrible. I can't sleep on airplanes, so I just read and watched movies, but airplane food makes me sick.
Anyways, those were just some of the experiences I had and they will stick with me always. It was definetly worth the money.

The First

Well, right now, I'm not sure how this will turn out. I don't even know it I'm doing this right(:
First off, I should definetly not use as many smiley faces as I do on facebook. I'll say it now: I guess I am a happy person, so keep that in mind as you read, if you are reading. I guess I don't care who reads my blog, I just need to see if I like this whole jornaling thing, because I want to be a journalist when I grow up. I want to travel the world and write about my adventures. That is my dream job...not very realistic but possible.
Anyway, my name is Katherine and I'm 17 and I'm a Junior in High School in Washington State. Am I supposed to put personal information on here? I have no clue. Can people stalk you on blogs? I sure hope not. I'm pretty naive...at this point at least.
I LOVE singing and playing the guitar, and my favorite genre of music is country. Like right now I'm listening to Over and Over Again by Nelly and Tim McGraw...haha who knew??  and my favorite artist is Taylor Swift<3. If there was anyone I'd want to be like it would be her.
I also love my family, friends and dog. I'm not too bad at golf and well...I've been a LOT of places for a 17 year old. Like Germany, France, Italy, Czechlisivakia (sp?), Leichtinstein, Switzerland, Austria, Canada, Japan and like 20 states in America and I am FAR from being done. I LOVE TO TRAVEL. I like to see how other people live and how the rest of the world goes 'round.
I don't blame you if you don't care in the least  about what I just said but I won't be writing just about me.
Well, I must go now to AWANAs at my church because I'm a leader...OH YEAH...I'm a Christian...I love Jesus so much it's the biggest part of me. And I love kids so much...they make me happy
